ZOOKEEPER

I logged in with my Alliance alt this morning at around 7:40am. Qiraji Guardling spawned exactly where I've been camped since March.

Entered the pet battle, UNCOMMON!!! Yay !! Little fucker hits hard! I had my lvl 25 Terrible Turnip and knocked him down to trap level with two hits. Also took the opportunity to level up Lil Bad Wolf.

I came out of the battle and there was another Guardling spawned behind me. So I did the douchey thing and battled it.

Lady Luck smiled down on me - RARE.

I didn't look at the exact coords, somewhere very close to 40,80.

I logged back in to get a screenshot of where he spawned.... and another one spawned within seconds of me standing there. I left it alone. It must've been a poor quality because I saw two players engage battle and leave instantly.

See him fluttering around in the center of the picture? The other one was on the far left where that Scorpid is.

Good luck everyone! Hope you find yours so we can all be ZOOKEEPERS together.

Sunday Night - Unborn Val'kyr

Sunday night (or Monday morning if you prefer) 12:50 am.

I logged in with my mage to check for the Unborn Val'kyr. Checked the far Northwest corner spot in Sholazar Basin. Nothing. On a whim, I flew to the northern middle spawn spot (same spawn spot as Loque'nahak) tapping my macro along the way.

My macro hit but I didn't see her. I landed. Still didn't see her. I saw her name plate but not her. She was in stealth or in the ground. Anyways, I hit my key bind to "interact with target" and the battle started!

She was up first and went against my lvl 25 squirrel. He hit her gently. She hit back. He hit her again, she hit back. I threw my pristine trap and it missed! She hit again. (please don't kill yourself, little one) I threw my pristine trap again and it snapped shut around her.

She had brought along two squirrel friends. I sent my Gilneas Raven in to take care of both of them.

She was lvl 22 and common, weakened to 20 at capture. Total camp time, less than 5 minutes :)

Beasts of Fable

The quest is given at Shrine of Two Moons, top level.

Defeat the Elite Battle Pets of the Pandaren fables.

Description

Have you ever read the great Pandaren book of fables? Pandaren pass these stories on to their cubs - stories of the cricket and the hawk, or the slow-moving turtle - to teach them lessons that they will find useful in life. What few cubs know is that these creatures exist, here, in Pandaria! Though the stories of their travels are made up, they are powerful denizens of this world. Should you happen upon them in your travels, you may test the might of your pets against their storied statures.

Rewards

Red Panda

So, here's how I did it. It's pretty basic unless the legendary pet was exceptionally difficult. For those, I'll share my strat.
This is the order I defeated the Legendary Beasts of Fable: All of the pets I used are level 25 and of rare quality.

No-No adorable, aquatic otter

Gate of the Setting Sun
Gilnean Raven
Wild Crimson Hatchling
Wind Rider Cub

Lucky Yi cricket critter
The Heartland, Valley of the Four Winds
Flayer Youngling (soloed)

Greyhoof Mushan Calf beast
The Wild Plains, Valley of the Four Winds
Terrible Turnip (use Sons of the Roost)
Wild Crimson Hatchling (use Deep Breath)
Personal World Destroyer (He died....)

Skitterer Xi'A Water Skimmer aquatic
Krasari Falls, Karasang Wilds
Gilnean Raven
Wild Crimson Hatchling
Wind Rider Cub

Dos-Ryga Aquatic fish in a bubble
Inkgill Mere, Kun Lai Summit
Wind Rider Cub
Gilnean Raven
The fish casts a whirlpool and a self heal. Raven's "Call Darkness" took care of him.

Kafi goat beast
Winter's Blossom, Kun Lai Summit
Terrible Turnip (use Sunlight)
Nether Faerie Dragon (use Arcane Blast, Life Exchange, Moonfire)
Singing Sunflower (use Solar Beam, Inspiring Song, Sunlight)
I found Kafi to be one of the two most difficult. Above are the three pets and talents I successfully used. Your mileage may vary.

Ti'un The Wanderer aquatic tortoise
Townlong Steppes
Gilnean Raven (use Call Darkness, Nocturnal Strike)
Wild Crimson Hatchling (use Healing Flame, Lift-Off)
Wind Rider Cub (use Squawk, Slicing Wind, Flock)

Gorespine hedgehog beast
Dread Wastes
Terrible Turnip
Nether Faerie Dragon
Wild Crimson Hatchling
Turnip goes first, Sunlight, Leech Seed, swap pet
Faerie Dragon- Life Exchange, Moonfire, swap pet
Crimson Hatchling- Heal, Lift-Off, Breath, swap pet
Faerie Dragon- Life Exchange, Moonfire, swap pet
 Turnip - Leech Seed
 *Gorespine dies*
I found Gorespine to be the most difficult to defeat.

Ka'wi The Gorger  critter grub
Fox Grove, Jade Forest
Arctic Fox Kit
Flayer Youngling
Cinder Kitten

Here he is, the last legendary Beast of Fable -
Nitun critter Tanuki
The Jade Forest
Arctic Fox Kit
Flayer Youngling
Cinder Kitten

No fireworks, no streamers, no achievement, just return to the Shrine of Two Moons, turn in the quest and get your new Red Panda.

Isle of Giants - Taming a Dino

It took about an hour of killing Dinomancers before one dropped the book so I could learn how to tame Direhorns.

Then, within the next hour, the book dropped nine more times. It sells for 37 gold and change so at least my repair bill was covered for getting my ass thrown off a cliff by the Papa Direhorns! (they headbutt HARD)

Here's my new pet Direhorn-

And can I just say how incredibly fun it is to put on the Direhorn disguise and stomp around the whole Isle of Giants!!! You can buy it from the vendor at the top of the Isle *if* you can fight your way up there or you can buy some from me, I have them in the auction house :)

Hello, MINFERNAL

I've had my lvl 62 Alliance camped out looking for a Minfernal with zero luck. I'd log in and check every time I entered or exited the game.

On Sunday nights, I stay up late. Late, late, late. On this particular Sunday night, I was nursing a ski injury and half asleep when I decided to check the area for a Minfernal.

There was a lvl 90 Belf hunter taunting my little Worgen. I tried to keep a far distance from the Belf so it was fair for both of us but she insisted on going where I went. Then, she went left to kill Kroshius and I went right up towards the pond.

I killed three rats, looped down around the edge of the pond, killing two toads, flew over the little bridge and *bam* my macro hit on the little Minfernal. He was standing on the edge of a pit looking very lonely. 12:47 am (late Sunday/early Monday)

I have two macros that I use.

One is:
/cleartarget
/tar Minfernal

and the other is a keybind to interact with target.

I ran around mashing these two buttons and got very lucky to be in the right place when he spawned.

There were at least 3 other players hovering high above the ground. I've said it before.... stay on the ground! You will get the battle started faster than those flying every time.

Anyways, Smackwich (Terrible Turnip) used a few Weakening Blows, the Worgen tossed her Pristine Trap and the Minfernal was captured. His two friends were easily defeated.

Minfernal was a common variety level 15 at capture.

That's fine with me, I'll eventually get a Magic Battle Stone and upgrade him.

Happy Anniversary, Loque'Nahak!

Originally posted January 29, 2009-

I've spent every day since the first week of December 2008 standing in the same spot in Sholazar Basin. I saw Loque dead once, skinned him and received the cloak. Nice trophy but I'd rather have the pet!
I've spent up to 6 hours at a time in the same spot over the past several weeks. I log out every night in SB, in the same spot.
Jan 29 was my lucky day! I was running some errands around town and swung by Baja Fresh for some lunch. Got home, unwrapped my burrito, took a big bite and logged in to the game.
As I was logging in, my husband was trying to reach me via voice chat.
I logged in at 4:58 pm. I noticed my mini map first and a yellow dot where there isn't normally a yellow dot. I knew it was Loque. I didn't see him though! I hit my macro and sure enough, Loque was targeted! I actually tossed the burrito I was holding onto the table, scattering black beans and tried to stay calm. Loque was walking underneath me as I stood on a small hill (71,72).
I started yelling at my computer, "Not now, husband, not now!"
I was so excited I forgot what to do! Oh yeah.... abandon pet, abandon pet! I hit Loque with an ice trap and a gorilla started beating on me. I abandoned my tiger as Loque broke free of his ice trap. He too started hitting me but I had a tame on him. I watched my health drop as my tame wound down. Oh dear, was it all about to go horribly wrong?
And then a Death Knight came down from the skies. Was he going to kill my treasure? Then an Ally hunter swooped down, the same Ally hunter whom had been harassing me for days with his antics but it was all over. Loque was mine ! First thing I did was send him after that Hardknuckle! Next I spammed my guild with an all caps "LOQUE IS MINE"!
I answered my husband's chat request and just started yelling at him, "Come to Sholazar, come to Sholazar!" He of course thought I was nuts, thought something was wrong that was causing me to holler, then he realized what had happened and soon was by my side in his Swift Flight Form admiring my new pet!
I fed the Beast, posed for pictures and then renamed him, "Loki". I thought I had a solid plan, knew exactly what steps to take when I finally spotted the Beast - let me tell you I didn't remember not one step of my plan! It happened so fast and my heart was pounding so hard!
I renamed him soon after, I felt he deserved a strong name with meaning. He is now named "Matthiessen" in honor of Peter Matthiessen, the author who spent two months tracking the elusive Snow Leopard in the Himalayas.
My advice for hunters still hoping - it WILL happen to you also, pick one spawn point and stay there. This was the third time Loque was sighted at this spot at around 5:00 pm. Be patient and you shall be rewarded!
I am a believer in karma so now whenever I attempt to obtain a rare item (such as the reins of the ravenlord mount) I go to Baja Fresh for lunch! It hasn't worked again but no harm in trying!

Camping the Minfernal

My husband got home very late last night and had to be up early this morning. I volunteered to stay up and entertain the cat so he could get some sleep.
She gets very excited and wants to play when he comes home so in order for him to have some peace, she and I stayed downstairs.

Hmmm, what to do while he is sleeping? Camp for rares of course. I tried the flight path trick repeatedly and each time there were more and more Minfernals spawned but each one was too far away to interact with as I flew over.

I tried camping one spot, I tried flying all over the Shatter Scar Vale. I tried killing all the critters in the area and then coming back.  No Minfernals.

I switched over to the toon camping Jageuro Isle but it wasn't raining.

Finally, around 4:00 am, I needed a break so I logged over to my exalted with the Order of the Cloud Serpent rogue and went Wild Hatchling hunting. There were dozens and dozens of them all over the place!

The first Crimson one I tried to trap wound up killing himself with his own weather and AOE effect before I could trap him.

After about 15 minutes, I had an uncommon of each color. Good enough for me, let someone else go get one (or three).

Back to the Minfernals for another 90 minutes. I finally gave up at about a quarter to six in the morning.

This coming from the girl who spent over one hundred patient hours camping Loque'Nahak.

True Story - to be continued......

The Minfernal

I've been trying the trick with the flight path. Since the flight path from Hyjal to Wildheart in Felwood flies through your home server, if one sees and targets a Minfernal, one should be able to interact with it and get pulled into a pet battle. Unless of course, your Hippogryph taxi is just a tad too high when you see him.

In theory, once one lands at Wildheart and flies on their own mount, one is now on the crossrealm server and will not see the same pets or the same damn Minfernal.

Very aggravating.

Try, try again.

This Just Happened . . .

I just logged in while typing the below post to get a screen shot and it was raining on Jaguero Isle off the coast of The Cape of Stranglethorn.

Know what that means? BABY APES!!!!

It was raining for at least 22 minutes with dozens of Baby Apes all over the side of the isle. About half a dozen players were around snatching up the baby apes, forfeiting and retrying for a rare.

They will continue to respawn as long as the rain is falling !

It was competitive but fun. I used my ground mount which gave me an advantage to all the flyers circling above. They had to swoop down but I was already on the pet's level. I used the Terrible Turnip who can hit them down to trapping level with one hit without killing them.

I found a dozen of poor quality, one common and one uncommon. I am happy because I have Flawless Battle Stones so I left after getting the Uncommon to give others a chance.

Defeating the Spirit Battle Masters

Grand Master Aki-
I used my Fox, Frosty (from LE Lich King) and a Death Talon Whelpguard.

Thundering Pandaren Spirit
Location: Vale of Endless Blossoms – 67, 14
Pets: Pandaren Earth Spirit (Elemental), Sludgy (Critter) and Darnak the Tunneler (Beast)

I hated this battle and it took me over a week of trying to get the right team assembled out of who I had available in my rares family.

My lvl 25 rare Arctic Fox Kit from Storm Peaks was first up in the battle against his Critter. Always start this battle against the critter. I have learned though, that repeated forfeits to get the critter to start will indeed lock up my game causing me to force quit and restart.
Dazzling Dance, howl, bite, bite, bite. his critter is dead.
Refresh Dazzling Dance because the fox is going to die.

Fox got one shot against his next pet, the Elemental, before Fox died. Pulled out Dennis Hopper (the frog) and blasted three times before frog was killed. Then it was his Beast against my pet.

I brought along EM Fifty, my Anodized Robo Cub, level 25 rare with Demolish, Rebuild and Supercharge abilities and fought the final fight.
His beast did kill my Robo Cub however, right before Robo Cub died, I had Supercharge activated. He comes back to life for one last hit and that last hit killed his beast, thus giving me the win.

Burning Pandaren Spirit
Location: Townlong Steppes – 57, 42
Pets: Pandaren Fire Spirit (Elemental), Crimson (Dragonkin) and Glowy (Flying)

I let the NPC start with his Elemental pet. I used my water pet (lvl 25 rare frog named Dennis Hopper) to kill it and my water pet survived to the next round against his Dragonkin pet. My water pet got one shot and then died.

I took out my human pet (lvl 25 rare Death Talon Whelpguard named Slugger) and finished off his Dragonkin pet.

Finally, my beloved first real battle pet, Pyros (lvl 25 rare Nether Faerie Dragon) came out and used his arcane abilities to finish off his flying pet.

Beast Master Goes Tamer

I hit a rut with grinding reps so I tried this whole pet battle thing. Now *this* was something I could get into! There are rares available, there are hard to capture pets to try and find and then they can be leveled to kill other pets! I've always wanted to send Matty after someone else's pet without the toon being involved. This could satisfy that whole "my pet is better than yours" thing. **giggle**

I still wasn't very interested in tracking and taming hunter rares because of my little mage. The one who didn't do anything throughout the entirety of Cata except for camp TLPD. She sat long and neglected, only used to make an occasional potion for the others.

And then I broke my foot.

Lots of time on the couch. LOTS. So I logged into the mage and learned to play her again. I leveled her to 82 as Arcane pre-Cata but the new talent trees completely fucked how I played her in the past.

I switched her over to Frost. Wow! Fun! I can freeze shit and then kill it! Hee hee! And she could use her portals to cruise around finding the Pet Battle Masters!

So, you can see how this is all tied together. She would level up the pets then my hunter would go around Pandaria defeating all the Battle Masters.

We all have the TAMER title now. My hunter especially likes it. So this blog may occasionally talk about Pet Battle strats and little creatures I've found.

And THIS is funny. My Flayer Youngling and the now level 90 mage (mogged into Silver Thread set)

And the foot that started it all-
